We’re excited to kick off our new employee spotlight series with Tiffany Prashar, FNP-C. Tiffany is a Vascular Nurse Practitioner in our Bethesda and Frederick offices, where she has worked since 2020. She completed her degrees at George Mason University and Indiana State University.
What inspired you to pursue a career in vascular health? What led you to CVL?
The inception of my vascular career started at GW Medical Faculty Associates approximately 10 years ago. I started my nursing career on a telemetry unit and worked my way through the ICU, interventional radiology, and recovery room (PACU). I later transferred to CVL in 2020, where I found my forever home.
What is your current role at CVL and what responsibilities does that come with?
I am a Nurse Practitioner. I work very closely with both Dr. McNeill and Dr. Rosenberg. I consider myself an extension of them. My primary responsibilities include assessing patients, coordinating and teaching management therapies, advocating and educating patients on preventative and/or health improvement measures, and providing minimally invasive treatments such as sclerotherapy, while collaborating with Drs. McNeill and Rosenberg every step of the way to help ensure continuity of care and successful, safe outcomes.
What is a typical day on the job for you?
I usually see 12-18 patients a day. That allows me to spend an adequate amount of one-on-one time with patients and be able to grasp their concerns, history and goals. I work particularly closely with Dr. McNeill, who is one of the best in his field. He has been an amazing mentor and teacher throughout my CVL career. I’ve realized that good patient care and excellent outcomes require a team approach. Having access to Dr. McNeill’s and Dr. Rosenberg’s experience and extensive knowledge, but having more flexibility and time available on my schedule to communicate and fully understand patient concerns, is a winning combination all the way around.
Considering how many patients you’ve seen in your career, do you have any advice to readers on how to maintain healthy veins?
Yes, I recommend exercise, healthy eating habits, no smoking, hydration, and the occasional consultation with a vascular surgeon.
What about those who come in for help? How do you approach patient care, and what do you believe is most important in treating patients?
I approach patient care the same way I would approach a family member or friend. I think the most important consideration is to always make them feel good about the visit. Patients always remember how you make them feel. We always want our patients to feel like they have received the best care and treatment options.
And what do you enjoy most about this career?
I appreciate the camaraderie, the opportunity to grow as a professional, and all the friendships that I have made with my colleagues.
What about outside your career? Any hobbies or passions you enjoy in daily life?
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, playing with my toddler, spending time with my family and friends, trying new restaurants, and walking.
