For this month’s employee spotlight, we’re featuring Dr. Garth Rosenberg. Dr. Rosenberg founded Capitol Vein & Laser with Dr. McNeil 25 years ago and has been pioneering exemplary leadership to his organization and premium care to patients throughout the DMV ever since. Get to know more about Dr. Rosenberg below.
Tell us about your professional background and what led you to join Capitol Vein & Laser Centers.
I am a general/vascular surgeon with many years of experience treating a variety of vascular issues, including venous disease. Dr. McNeill and I trained in surgery together at Medical College of Virginia and then joined forces in 2000 to provide vascular care to the community.
What inspired you to pursue a career in vascular or aesthetic care?
Vascular surgery allows a very holistic approach to patient care as so many factors have an impact on the arterial and venous systems. I enjoy the technical challenges of the specialty, and the ability to have a very positive impact on patients’ lives is quite rewarding.
What are some of the most common conditions you treat, and how do you approach treatment?
We treat all patterns of venous and lymphatic disease, but most commonly varicose veins, blood clots, and lymphedema. While the plan of treatment differs with every condition, we treat them all with expertise and care.
Do you have any tips for patients on how to maintain healthy veins and skin?
It is important to understand that genetic factors play a large role in determining the development of varicose veins. Maintaining a reasonable body weight and maximizing physical activity are two behaviors that will minimize the impact of venous disease. Muscle strength diminishes in all of us as we age, and putting special focus on resistance exercises is important in maintaining healthy legs.
How do you approach patient care, and what do you believe is most important in treating patients?
I aim to ensure that the patient understands both the goals of treatment and the plan of care.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I cherish the wonderful staff I share every day with, as well the opportunity to help patients manage the complexities of their vascular care.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of work?
I enjoy cycling, gardening, fitness, and travel.
