For this month’s employee spotlight, we’re featuring Susan Cottrell, CRNP. Susan has been a valuable member of our CVL family for eight years, working in the Chambersberg, Hagerstown and Frederick offices. Susan received her degrees from Walden University, Chamberlain College of Nursing and Pennsylvania State University. She is certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Can you tell us about your professional background and what led you to join Capitol Vein & Laser Centers?
My heart has always been in nursing. I worked as a certified nurse’s aide in high school and college. I graduated from Penn State in 2003 as a registered nurse and worked in acute care for 17 years. When my children started school, I decided to advance my skills, so I graduated from Walden University as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2017. I met Dr. McNeill while doing my clinical rotations for graduate school. His lecture, followed by an offer to shadow him, sparked my interest in the specialty, and I joined Capitol Vein & Laser Centers in 2017. The knowledge, skills and patients within this specialty have been highlights of my career!
What inspired you to pursue a career in vascular or aesthetic care?
That’s easy, I love helping patients feel and look their best!
What is your current role at CVL, and what are your primary responsibilities?
I see our patients from start to finish, along with Dr. McNeill and Dr. Rosenberg.
Are there any recent conferences, seminars or training sessions you’ve attended that were particularly beneficial?
Yes! I stay updated with my education through the American Vein & Lymphatic Society, and conferences such as the Venous Symposium.
How do you approach patient care, and what do you believe is most important in treating patients?
My philosophy is to provide individualized, compassionate, evidence-based care to my patients and their families.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
The people! We have a great team of caring and dedicated professionals.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of work?
I love spending time with my family. I love anything outdoors – particularly the mountains, traveling and my horses!
